Rans 20th Anniversary Fly-In Photos

06/20 - 06/21/03 - Following are a few photos I took with a DISPOSABLE DIGITAL CAMERA...yes, Kodak has finally come up with a disposable digital...it's pretty cool when you don't have to worry about losing your own when traveling!

Early arrivals:

Two of the FIVE aircraft that came in from Idaho (and we weren't having an eclipse...that's my finger in the upper right corner).  Very nice S-7's!

:

Another super S-7:

Kirby Crawford's S-7 which was given "Champion Dope & Fabric" award...very sweet aircraft.  I also got to meet and chat with Kirby a bit!

A Subie-Powered Shekari:

My VERY FIRST EVER attempt at fabric work (I know it's sloppy, I took the photo while the adhesive was still wet, but I also KNOW I can do it now):

And here's what an experienced fabric person does with the same raw material (ok, I did leave out the rib stitch because my Coyote project doesn't require any and I PURPOSELY left the tape corners hanging so it would be easier to remove the material):

Here's a long shot of an S-18 Stinger and an S-6S Coyote taking off for two of nearly 80 demo rides given during the weekend (also showing the Rans company S-16 Shekari in the background):

Clem Nichols getting ready to take the S-6S Tri-Gear up for a spin (well, I'm sure he didn't really spin it, but you know what I mean)

Yep, I  want a panel just like this (in fact, my panel is CUT the same way, but I may not be able to afford the KLX-135 GPS/COMM -*AND*- the Sony CD player):

Ahhh, Coyotes in Taildragger mode!

Another of the Idaho group, Mark Edward's very nice 1995 S-6SXL Coyote won the award for the oldest Rans aircraft that was flown in, and Mark also wins my award for being the most personable and friendly of the fliers willing to share about building a Rans aircraft from the builder's perspective.  Thanks again Mark, it was a treat to meet and talk with you!

Sweet S-7's abound:

Here's the Rans company S-16 Shekari:

The Rans company S-12 Arialle (was also the MOST POPULAR among the demos):

The Rans company S-10 (had a broken tailwheel and didn't fly this weekend):

The Rans company S-18 Stinger (seemed to be a hit with the younger generation):

Inside the main hangar (you can see the prototype S-3 Coyote hanging in the center and the prototype S-17 hanging in the rear)

Rans founder Randy Schlitter (left) chatting with a customer prior to another demo flight in the Coyote Taildragger:

A gaggle of Rans aircraft from various build sites around the country:

Chip Meyers' Grand Champion Dope & Fabric S-6S Coyote and the absolute FINEST Coyote I have seen to date (this aircraft has it ALL, believe me, it makes other aircraft jealous).

One (of two) of the Rans S-7 company aircraft taxiing out for another demo:

If you haven't met Rans Technical Support Wizard, Ed Schwab, you still haven't...but if you look closely, you'll see him leaning on the lift strut of this Tri-gear Coyote.  Ed probably flew thirty or forty demo rides in the Coyotes over the weekend and STILL found time to chat about building the things (well, I assume he's talking about building, at least he was every time I got his attention)!

I'll say it again, Thanks, Ed!

Did I mention I'm building THIS particular airplane?  ;^)

At this point, my little Kodak disposable ran out of film and I stopped being a spectator/photographer and officially became a participant.

I hope to fly my completed Coyote out to Hays next year and do it all aver again!
