Assembly 101...

12/28/02 - Christmas is over, so last evening and today I was able to get out to the shop and spend some 'quality time' with my Coyote kit.

Rans Customer Service Comes Through!  I received my replacement radiator yesterday...just wanted to declare that I STILL HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT RANS SERVICE!

I mentioned in last week's post that I had begun work on the floorboard pre-fit and after posting the html, I discovered I had installed some of the rivets from the wrong side! Fortunately, they were easily removed and reinstalled properly, so that was last night's hour long job.

I enjoyed a few hours of relative peace (meaning I didn't put anything together backwards, nor did I manage to hide any of the required components from myself) working on final fit for the floorboard, floorboard wear plate, brake master cylinders and rudder pedals today.

It's really amazing how easily these parts go together when you START OFF PROPERLY!  :-)

(This is a learning process for me, you see. Did I mention that?)

Here's the assembly photo before the brake master cylinders were installed (honestly, there's a good bit of work involved in this simple photo, it just doesn't look like there might be):

After final fit and installation of the brake master cylinders, I began assembling the pads that attach to rudder pedals and brake cylinders.  This part of the assembly process required just a bit of drilling to size, deburring, riveting (properly, this time!) and installation:

When I got to the 'U' brackets which attach the foot pads to the brake cylinders, I got a little confused because they just don't look like they're going to fit!

But if you READ THE DIRECTIONS, things generally work out:

The photos above show my final pre-fit for the pilot left pedal.  The assembly is just loosely installed at the moment.  I have a bit of prep work left to finish on the other three pads tomorrow and then I'll be able to complete this part of the assembly.

12/29/02 - I was able to spend a little more time in the shop today and completed assembly and installation on the rudder pedal foot pads, brake cylinders, etc.  Here's a couple of the 'after' shots:

I'll be moving along to the firewall next including the hydraulic brake system and other components which are firewall mounted and so far, I'm having a great time!

You know that old saying, 'Don't try this at home'?, Well, DO TRY THIS AT HOME if you have an opportunity!  You'll love it!

More updates soon...
