Covering left wing...and we're finished!!!

12/14 & 12/20/03 - We'll, I'm finally finished with the fabric work on the wings and what a great experience it was!!!

I'm happy to be at this point, but very grateful I waited until the time I did to attempt covering the wings.  The manual indicates covering the wings before flaps and ailerons, but I NEEDED the extra experience and I feel they've turned out pretty good for an amateur.

I got out to the shop for a couple of hours last Sunday to finish applying the edge tape to the tip bow and began inspecting the whole wing for loose tape edges.

Here is a shot of the tip bow during taping and after completion:

I got a decent start today by applying adhesive to all required areas (tapes, leading & trailing edges, root skins, etc) then a few hours later went over the whole surface inspecting and ironing-down tape edges.

Following are a couple of shots showing top and bottom surfaces after final adhesive application,  inspection and tape-edge ironing:

I then cut the aileron and flap exit covers to size and temporarily attached them to the wing surface for drilling to match the ring-cover:

At this point, I am ready to jump over to the fuselage and prep it for covering.

There are a number of things to do before I actually wrap a sheet of fabric on the fuse, maybe as much as eight or ten hours, but I should begin covering the LAST ITEM before the end of the year!

No work tomorrow, maybe next weekend...and if I don't have an opportunity before then, I wish everyone a happy holiday season and a very safe and prosperous new year!

More updates soon...
