Covering left wing...

12/08 - 12/09/03 - Last evening and this evening, I spent just a bit of time after work in the shop and managed to get the top and bottom ribs marked for tapes, apply an initial bed of adhesive to both sides and finish the bottom side taping application.

Photos below starting with the topside after marking and applying the initial adhesive pass over the rib-tape areas:

You may remember, I mentioned being VERY CAREFUL with the single edge blade I've been using to cut the melted collars when opening the rivet holes in the ribs?

The photo below shows what happens when you're VERY CAREFUL and still not careful enough...note the 2" X 2" patch in the middle of the image.  The 3/8" to 1/2" CUT is slightly visible in the center of the patch.

Oh well, at least I'll always know this wing when I look up at it from below!  ;^)  The rib tape covers most of the patch.

The next photo shows the bottom side after the initial adhesive pass AND the patch job (visible just above the flap control exit ring near the inboard-aft side).

Another perspective of the bottom side before tapes are applied:

Here, with the tapes rough cut and ready to apply to the bottom side:

During the process:

Working on the root rib tape:

Completed bottom side rib tapes as I rotated the wing to complete the root rib tape:

Pretty decent progress for two easy 90 minute sessions the past two evenings!

I'd like to try and get back out to the shop tomorrow and/or Thursday evenings for similarly short stints in order to get the top side rib tapes applied and get a start on the remaining edge tapes.  We'll see...

More updates soon...
