Covering left wing bottom... 12/01/03 - Today, I got my customary 10:00 AM start and sanded-out the fill on the leading edge wrap, then covered the bottom of the left wing structure. Here's a shot of the wing topside as I was applying the anti-chafe tape and before painting the structure with a bed of adhesive:
Beginning the covering process here aligning the sheet edge with the adhesive point on the trailing edge spar:

Leading edge side has been glued down and now I am running a final trim cut along my intended forward edge for the bottom sheet:

After the previous photo, I cut the sheet to allow the jury strut and lift strut fittings to protrude through, then ran an initial shrink at 250 degrees to pull the wrinkles out. The application today was as easy, if not easier than the last and I believe the output is actually somewhat better-looking than the right wing bottom sheet, so I am well satisfied with the job. We'll see what tomorrow looks like before deciding to apply the top sheet...tomorrow being my last vacation day and all, I may just take the day off! ;^) More updates soon... |
