Various things with wings and stands... 10/31/03 - 11/01/03 - 11/02/03 - This weekend I got a LITTLE closer to covering the first wing. I spent a bit of time Friday evening drilling and tapping the wing-stand A-frame and 'feet' so I could bolt them together hoping they'll provide a more sturdy base for the wings and fuselage. I couldn't bear the thought of dropping one of the items whilst flipping them. Yesterday, I applied a lightweight filler (SuperFilŽ from PolyFiber) to the Leading Edge Wrap on the right wing in a few areas that didn't fully smooth out when I installed the wrap. Here is the area I worked on:
The SuperFil product is an extremely light two-part epoxy substance that requires about a 12 hour cure time before sanding. I wet-sanded the spots today and the result is amazing. I have a VERY SMOOTH leading edge wrap at this point and would recommend the product to anyone as it works on nearly all surfaces. I also had a couple of visitors this weekend from our local EAA Chapter. Friday Night, Eric Lindenschmidt, EAA Chapter 21 President stopped by for an hour or so and today, EAA Chapter 21 Newsletter Editor, Bill Gowin was over for a while and lent a hand locating trim lines and pre-fitting the bottom fabric section on the right wing. Here's a shot of Bill after we got the fabric into place:
A few other shots of today's progress (please excuse the grainy photo - very SUNNY today):
So as you can see, I didn't actually get any fabric ATTACHED to the wing, but I am ready to start next trip out to the shop. More updates soon... |
