Finish edge tapes on ailerons and the last flap and receive wing and fuselage stands...

10/25/03 - I realize this isn't aviation related, but the Yankees are ONE LOSS away from losing the World Series and tonight's game may be the last for the season. I guess the Florida Marlins have a great team too and since I'm more of a fan of the game itself, I don't really mind if the Yanks do lose.

It's been a wonderful playoff season in any case for all baseball fans.

Go Yankees!  ;^)

OK NOW, BACK TO THE PROJECT!!!

This week, I received the wing and fuselage stands, just as Steve at Rans predicted and I am PRETTY SURE I'M GONNA LIKE WORKING WITH THEM!!!!

Here's a shot of the main stands with the fuselage attachments installed:

The stands will allow me to continue the majority of the rest of the work solo as I can rotate the workpiece as needed.  I understand I could have used my horses, but I really don't like the idea of trying to flip such a large item by myself and not mess something up.

Today, I got my usual 10:00 AM start (hey, I don't work too hard on the weekends) and by 2:00 PM when I had to knock off to go get my hair cut, I had 80% of the remaining edge taping task completed.  I finished up after returning home and am now ready to knock the work table down, do a bit of prep work and then begin covering the wings.

Just a few photos today to show that we're actually AT THIS POINT (with three pieces finished in this photo):

Running the tape along the trailing edge of the last piece:

Completed Flaps and Ailerons ready for bagging:

Just as when I completed the last covering phase for the tail section group of surfaces, I feel just a bit more competent at this and while I have a couple of places on this group that could probably look better, I'm very satisfied with the overall results of my effort and I feel that the Coyote will look great when completed!

I'll probably try to get the wing prep work started tomorrow.

I have to relocate the door-up catch sockets, then rivet them into place, strip the rest of the protective plastic off the leading edge wraps, figure out what to do about the couple of spots that aren't ENTIRELY smooth in the wrap (I may have to do some fill work there, not completely uncommon according to Ed) drill the tip bows for the wing-stand attachment item and generally rearrange the shop a bit before the next covering phase can begin.

I may actually begin covering the first wing -next- weekend if life doesn't get in the way too much.  ;^)

My current plan is to get both wings finished, then take the covered items out to where I work (we have a very nice paint booth there) and do the primer/filler work on everything completed to date before I begin covering the fuselage.

I can then store the wings either overhead in the shop or somewhere else (I believe I can get them into the basement if necessary as it's a straight shot down the stairs from our back door, plenty of space there) leaving more room in the shop for the fuselage covering event to follow.

More updates soon...
