KLX-135A GPS/COM Test, prep Flaps & Ailerons for fabric... 10/11/03 - Today, in the limited time available (before the Yankees -vs- Red Sox ALCS Baseball game) I was able to successfully test my KLX-135A GPS/COM and KA-92 Antenna combination. I knew from the shop report that the GPS/COM was in fine shape, but the shop warned me I probably had a bad antenna because I didn't buy new (at $378 for the antenna & install kit from them) but instead bought a $200 'bargain' on eBay. Over the past week, I put the battery on charge and today pulled everything out and connected it all and this is what I saw:
The antenna was advertised as new, has a manufacture date of 06/02 and appears to work just fine! Yay! After a few tests, I could pull up other airports, etc. so I put everything away and got down to work prepping the Aileron and Flap structures for fabric. I pulled all the hardware off, re-taped the compression tubes to the trailing edge spars and trimmed the Flap Control Horns to size. I then cleaned all tubes and laid out the first component for fabric...and then I QUIT! I had to get lunch, etc. before the ballgame, and so I may not get back out to cover these items today. Probably not! ;^) Here are a couple more photos of today's bare minimum effort:
At least I'm ready to go when the urge strikes next. I may or may not work tomorrow as it's my birthday and I just might give myself the day off from everything! Steve in Parts told me that Rans is shipping my stands out on Wednesday Oct. 15, so I believe I'll be able to start covering the wings immediately after I finish these components and I don't think these will take too long (once I actually get started). More updates soon... |
