Wings...rib clips, rivet ribs to spars 07/02/03 - I finally got out to the shop this evening for a couple of hours and completed drilling & riveting the rib ends to the clips, then riveted the ribs to the spars. Finishing this task brings the right side wing structure up to a holding point. I'll jump off now to bring the left wing structure to the same assembly point then begin installing the leading edge wraps on both wings. A few photos from this evening's work follow beginning with the completed rib structure:
A couple of photos after moving the completed structure to begin work on the left side:
I still have quite a bit of work on the wing structures in addition to leading edge wrap, including routing the fuel lines properly, installing sight gauge assemblies on the root tank for both wings, installing the aileron control tube assembly, rigging the nav/strobe light assemblies and probably another thing or three I can't think of at the moment, but my Coyote IS coming right along! I know I missed my self-imposed goal of having the wings ready for fabric by the end of June, and at this point, I'll be happy to be there by the end of July as I'm very busy at work at the moment, sometimes not getting away until 6PM or later, but that's life. THE JOURNEY IS THE KEY, not the destination!!! ;^) I did schedule delivery on my Rotax 912S engine for mid-September while I was at the Rans fly-in recently and a couple of days ago I looked at a very nice site I can lease on a month to month basis for painting, rigging and final assembly. The building is a former body shop and is located directly across the highway from our local regional airport (EVV) and although it's not big enough to rig the Coyote completely inside (25' X 40') there's a nice asphalt lot in front I can use for rigging and it's SECURE meaning I won't be squeezed in my 20' X 20' shop during painting, etc. I haven't decided for sure that I'll take the building because you never know what's just around the corner and if a nice tee hangar comes along, I'll see about finishing things up in THAT instead! I'll probably decide on the temporary location by the end of this month. More updates soon... |
