Wings...the basic structures are complete and ready for ribs! 05/14 - 05/15 - 05/17/03 - I was able to get out to the shop twice for a bit during the evenings last week and again today long enough to complete the basic structure of the 116 area wings. Also in the past week, I was able to visit Ralph Koch Field (61Y) and arrange for a hangar on Ralph's 2900 X 100 turf strip. (I am honestly VERY HAPPY this is out of the way, too.) I hope to start the lease around the first of August, but the more I think about it, the later it looks like it'll happen...too much left to do probably. Next up will be the wing ribs, fuel tanks, aileron control tubes, flap controls, etc. Hmmm...that sounds like a lot of work...maybe I won't be ready to begin covering at the first of June! ;^) Oh well, it's a project and there's really no deadline! Here are some photos of the tasks from this week, starting with the aileron push/pull tube guides clecoed in place:

I will probably not work tomorrow as I plan to rest because I was up very early (starting at 5:00 AM after KipperCat decided he needed something...we still don't know what he needed other than company, I guess, so I was awake and started working the problem again) trying to get my company's email server working properly by getting the MX record fixed after Network Solutions/Verisign screwed with it...:::GRUMBLEGRUMBLE:::...by moving our business domain settings to some unknown IP...suffice to say, I was unhappy but it was finally straightened out when I DROPPED Network Solutions like the proverbial hot potato in favor of my NEW REGISTRAR and site host WestHost, Inc. We've been using WestHost for our EAA Chapter 21 Site and I had recently moved this website over to their server farm as well ($8/mo for 100GB with terrific service...is hard to beat) and so when I finally had my fill with the OVERBLOWN CORPORATE MONSTER that Network Solutions had become, WestHost was only too happy to help fix my problem. I have another SIX DOMAINS I am pulling registration away from NetSol on Monday. If you have any hosting business, etc. give these folks a shot...they're worth it! Anyway...I'm also on the Warbirds flight schedule again tomorrow (yep...rained out again today for the fourth consecutive scrub) at 9:00 AM and I'm hoping for clear blue skies. I hope after all this crowing I've done about it, the event is worth it. ;^) On another, more positive note...another Rans afficionado, Clem Nichols (owns an S-12 and is currently considering another Rans project) and myself have made plans to attend the Rans 20th Anniversary Fly-In on June 20 and 21 at Hays, KS. There aren't too many 20 year old aircraft kit manufacturers who are still around AND successful. Congratulations, Rans!!! I'm going to attend AT LEAST ONE of the covering seminars (since that's pretty much where I'll be on my project) and also the Rotax Engine Seminar. I've gotta get a little more tailwheel time too and this is the perfect place to do it. Josh Brungardt (Rans staff CFI) says we can visit a grass strip for some landings practice. Come on out, it'll be great fun! More updates soon... |
