Bubble Doors... 04/11 & 04/12/03 - Today, after spending the WHOLE MORNING of the most beautiful day so far this year shooting the breeze at Skylane Airport and watching a very nice group of pilots from our local EAA Chapter coming and going (Cessna 120, two Cessna 140's, a Cessna 170, a Piper Colt, a Pulsar, two Cessna 150's, a Piper 140, a Piper Archer, a Smith Mini Biplane, an Acro Sport Biplane and a newly signed off RV-6), I decided I'd better get back to the shop and at least try to get something done today...I managed a whole two hours! ;^) I began last evening on the left hand bubble door replacement installation and got things up to the point to installing the door handles by the time I quit today. Here are a few photos of the task, starting with fitting the rib:
Fitting the panel to see where I need the top edge to be:
After cutting the top edge and clecoing the corners at the top:
Marked, drilled and ready to rivet:
Riveted and hung with door rib loose fit:
With rib now riveted in place and final trimming completed, lacking the door handles:
I may or may not get to the door handles tomorrow because M and I are taking Alyssa to Mesker Park Zoo for her first time and that may take the whole afternoon, which is NOT a problem, because there's only one first trip to the zoo! More updates soon... |
