Aft Baggage Compartment...

03/29/03 - Last time out, I mentioned receiving the replacement standard door ribs that ALSO contained a bend and find out later that they're SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE BEND...oh well.

In the meantime, I decided I wanted the extra comfort room afforded by the bubble door panels and was able to talk Paula at Rans into holding the kit option price on an 'after receipt' purchase, so now I'm waiting on delivery of the bubble door kit. [thanks Ed and Paula!]

I have a spare set of standard tinted door panels if you need a set!

Today, I installed the Aft Baggage Compartment and began installation of the compartment frame and door assembly.  I stopped mid-afternoon to make a run to Sears to pick up that Dremel tool I've always wanted.  ;^)  (actually, I needed the tool to finish a couple of small cuts and today was apparently the day to go get it!)

Here are a couple of photos from today's task starting with the loose fit:

Also in the last week, I picked up a DeVILBISS HVLP gravity fed sprayer, a small amount of Dupont DS171G (which matches my fuselage grey powder coat color) and my initial spray and painting supplies consisting of respirator, etching primer, etc. in order to paint the 'Z' Strips for the inside windshield connection and to do any necessary touchup on the fuselage.

Did I mention I'm planning to do my own painting?  I have NO EXPERIENCE at that EITHER...but I think it'll work out fine.

Just like the Rans factory built aircraft, I plan to use Dupont ChromaSystem paint for my primer-filler, finish and clear coats and so I was very happy to find a local shop where I can purchase all my required material.

More updates soon...
