Windshield and doors... 03/23/03 - Although I was feeling a bit on the lousy side today, the only thing I really wanted to accomplish after a quick trip to Office Depot was to get my right side door/window assembly fore and aft edges straight (yes, I dreamed overnight about how to do it properly) and so that was today's main task. The task was actually no problem with a bit of masking tape to provide the straight edge I wanted to match, so I taped it to centerline of both Station 2 and 3 vertical tubes, removed everything and cut.
That went so well I decided to try and get the left side to the same point (I'm actually waiting on the replacement door ribs in order to go any farther on the right side door, so I may as well get started on the other door). Here are a few photos from start to finish on the left side:
I decided to go ahead and mark final trim edges with the masking tape at first:
All trimmed:
Trimmed, drilled and clecoed:
and back in place on the fuselage:
Forward and aft edges of left side window are exactly where I wanted them (wish I'd though of this yesterday!):
I think I have another two or three hours to finish this section then a couple of really small items (battery box and aft baggage compartment) before I begin work on the control surfaces. I have a vacation slot scheduled for the third week of April (4/14 - 4/18) and I want to spend some quality time in the shop during that week, so I'm hereby estimating that I should be ready to begin covering between May 15 and June 1. [all readers are invited to feel free to hold me to this] ;^) I also plan to get with Paula at Rans to schedule shipment on my 912S Rotax engine around mid to late June. More updates soon... |
