Windshield and doors... 03/12/03 - NEWS FLASH: The weather is BETTER!!! [hooray] Tonight when I got home from work, I got out to the shop for a bit and began the next phase of my project which includes pre-fit and installation of the windshield and doors. I first had to REMOVE A FEW ITEMS in order to get started. I removed the panel top closeouts, wheels and main gear and then reinstalled the windshield deck. After that, I laid out the windshield loosely fitted to the deck and S2 vertical tubes to see how close things were and they weren't too bad. The assembly manual says the windshield comes with three predrilled #11 holes, but mine had a single registration mark (located at the left side S2 tab) so I drilled to that and clecoed, squared everything and then drilled the other two tabs across S2, clecoed them and called it an evening. Following are a few photos. No gear, no top panel closeouts, windshield deck back in place:

Drilled and clecoed in place (somewhat in place...windshield will fit inside deck):
Before beginning this project, I would have lost a bet if someone had told me I would put the project together and then take it apart multiple times before finishing...next time in the shop, I WILL REMOVE the windshield and drill the deck where the windshield and deck are connected, reinstall the windshield and work on drilling and clecoing that. I have yet to finish sand the edge of the windshield deck, so if it looks a little rough or wavy, bear with me, it'll look better later in the job. On another note, the Lexan LOOKS cloudy or murky, but it's covered with a nice protective film so we builders don't destroy it during this period...I hear it's usually messed up during the first refueling operation! ;-) I have a plan for combating that problem, thanks to a post on the S7 list by Kirby Crawford...thanks Kirby! More updates soon... |
