Covering and assembling seats... 02/08/03 - Well, it's still pretty cold here...11° outside and 26° inside the shop at 6:00 AM when I started my little heater and at 1:00 PM it was a toasty 44° in my shop! Why yes, I'll be happier when it's not so bloody cold! ;^) Today, I worked on attaching the seat bottom, back and headrest to the first seat frame I assembled WAY BACK in mid January. The seats come covered (I ordered 'Super Deluxe' which consists of a couple different fabric types, colors and ribbing) and are pretty nice looking when you get them put together. You attach the cushions to the frame by pulling flaps together with stainless steel wire and plastic ties which seems to work pretty well and is actually easy even for a non-technical type like myself. Following are a few photos of the job in-process starting attaching the seat bottom:
Here's the seat with back cushion installed:
and the seat with headrest:
After I finished the first seat, I began assembly (properly this time) of the second seat frame and about halfway through the process, I lost the trigger on my pneumatic hand drill and had to make a run to Sears for hex key wrenches (somewhere along the line, I'd lost the size I needed) to reattach the trigger and after I returned (with more tools than I'd intended to buy, but isn't that always the case?) fixed the drill. Note to self, stop buying multiple use tools from Harbor Freight! SERIOUS NOTE TO ALL BUILDERS AND BROWSERS - I've had it with Harbor Freight's stuff - they're cheaper for a reason folks. If you're buying a one time use tool, fine, but don't waste your hard earned money on something you want to last for years. Repeat after me: Buy quality! Buy quality! Buy quality! Ok...enough of that. Here's the second completed seat frame awaiting cushions (tomorrow's job):
