Trim and fit interior sections...assemble seats 01/18/03 - Today (after I got the shop warmed up - it was 7° outside and 26° in the shop at 8:00 AM - I got started at 11:30 when my little heater finally got the temp up to 50°) I worked on completing the interior pre-fit. I stopped last with just a couple of major panels left to trim out and that took about two hours to complete today. Following are a couple of photos of the completed and loose fit (everything has to come back out for covering) thermal formed interior. Left side:

Completed interior (and my gang of clamps!):
After lunch, I began working on the seats. I found out I was short some required parts (4 pcs Rivet Nuts, Rans will ship on Monday) and could only complete one seat today. Construction is relatively straight forward with a bit of fitting, drilling, etc...or so I thought! Here's a completed seat with the seat back frame REVERSED! Here we go again... :-)
The seat looked just fine going together (I swear I reviewed the drawings MULTIPLE TIMES!) and when I placed it in the frame and stepped back, it just didn't look right! I'd somehow flipped the seat back frame over during the headrest frame fit and got it on the wrong side...DOH!!! Oh well, I pulled it out and reversed the seat back frame and pin-fit the headrest frame (since I'm now short 8 pcs of Rivet Nuts after the backward frame incident!) and it fits just fine, although this finished seat frame will no doubt SWAP SIDES during final assembly. ;-) The seat bottoms flip up for a bit of storage area, but mainly to allow seat adjustment. You pull the locking pins on each side of the seat, then slide the seat fwd/aft and re-pin. Hey! It's a Coyote, not a Bonanza... :) The Coyote has four seat positions. Here's a shot showing the locking pins for seat adjustment. The pin is visible at the lower end of the tri-angular shaped gusset joining the seat back frame and the seat bottom frame. (this shot shows minus two 1/2" diameter .035" horizontal tube sections yet to be installed between the two inside seat gussets to provide extra rigidity - I'll install these when I put everything together for good).
Here's a wide shot of the cockpit area (firewall removed so I could fit the kick panels properly):
That's about it for this weekend, tomorrow I'm watching FOOTBALL and nursing three or four scraped up knuckles...but that's a story for another day...it's still fun!!!!! ;^) More updates soon... |
