Elevator Push-Pull Tube assembly... 01/08/03 - Tonight, I had a bit of free time and was able to get the Elevator Push-Pull Tube Assembly fabricated and installed without any problems. The task is simple in that you make a few stops and bushings from raw stock, lay out the parts, assemble according to the manual, drill a hole or three and install. Following are a couple of photos of the installation. The assembly is the black tubing running fore to aft just under the seat area in the center of the fuselage.
The control stick torque tube (assembled and installed a few days ago along with the rudder pedal assembly, etc.) connects to the control sticks, the aileron cable system and elevator push-pull tube assembly for maintaining two of the three axes controlled in flight (pitch via elevator and roll via aileron). The third control system is via the rudder pedal assembly for controlling yaw (you really wanted to know that, right?) Update: Last time, I completed assembly and installation of the aileron cable system and had stopped after I noticed the cables were too close to the cross brace frame at the aft seat position. Checking with Ed at Rans, I find that I needed to reverse the orientation on the clevis pin holding the shackle to the tang (which in turn holds the pulley). This allowed the pulley assembly to lie 'flatter' horizontally and provided just the proper clearance after my cable assembly was tensioned. Thanks Ed! According to the assembly manual, I'm at the point now where I should jump off to work on fitting the interior, build seats and doors then start on the control surfaces (wings, etc.)...sounds like fun!!! More updates soon... |
