Forward contour formers and control sticks... 01/04/03 - Yesterday I had such good luck with the right side forward contour formers that I was able to complete the left side installation in just about an hour. Here are a couple of photos:
I then took a trip to LOWE'S, where I spend what seems like a couple days a week and more money than I should. Today's trip was a mercy run...my air compressor has a vertical tank with the drain valve on the bottom, which wouldn't be too bad if I didn't mind lying on my tummy with pliers to turn a 3/8" cap in order to drain the thing. I picked up the required plumbing items and ran the drain out to the front where I can just reach down and flip the valve open and be done with it (I should have done this way earlier). After I got the compressor back in place, I began assembly on the next section, the control sticks...I am getting closer every day to where I can sit in the cockpit and make airplane noises!!! Speaking of airplane noises, I sent the check off yesterday for my Rotax 912-S engine. I wanted to lock in the price and not have to think about all that extra $$$ sitting in the bank, tempting me to go off and buy that KX135A GPS/COM I've been thinking about. Plenty of time to find the right NAV/COM or GPS/COM before we're ready to fly, but I -will- need an engine! Paula at Rans said she'd give me the latest engine model when it ships, so at least that's out of the way. I'm hoping to be ready to take the engine in about six months...remember, you heard it here first! Here are a couple of early Control Stick assembly shots:
